Title: Health System Anatomy: Understanding Structure to Change Function
Workshop Description: Participants will learn about the anatomy of health care financing and delivery in Canada and the “vital signs” of a universal health care system. We will explore key challenges and opportunities within the Canadian health care system, and participants will work together to compare international systems and design interventions to improve access to care in Canada.
Bio: Dr. Melanie Bechard (she/her) is a pediatric emergency physician at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and a clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa. She holds a Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Systems and Policy from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Bechard is the Chair of Canadian Doctors for Medicare, advocating for an equitable and sustainable health care system. Her research focuses on equitable access to care, health economics, and injury prevention.
