Female Genital Cutting Workshop

Simret Daniel from the Sexual Education and Resource Centre (SERC) will be running a workshop called Exploring a Cultural Humility Approach to Understanding Female Genital Cutting on March 9. She will be facilitating discussions about a variety of topics regarding FGC, such as:

• Types of FGC
• Beliefs about FGC
• Possible health consequences of FGC
• Women’s sexuality
• Starting the conversation with women about FGC in a culturally sensitive way
• Canadian law and FGC
• What we have learned from the communities participating in the OSOD project about decision-making, change, access to services etc.

SERC facilitates this interactive workshop at universities, non-profit organizations and settlement organizations. It is an excellent opportunity to gain a better understanding of this complex health and cultural issue that we may encounter as healthcare practitioners.
