The Global Health Interest Group (GHIG) will be hosting our annual student-run Rich Man Poor Man fundraising dinner February 21, 2018 in the Brodie Atrium from 5:30pm to 8:00pm. Cocktails will be served at 5:30pm with speakers and dinner beginning at 6:00pm.
Our theme this year is Global Mental Health. This year we are supporting the North End Women’s Centre, a local charity that supports women in the community with counselling services, addictions services, drop-in services, health and wellness programs, transitional housing, basic needs assessment and advocacy. The evening will feature a speaker in the area of Global Mental Health. All proceeds from ticket sales and raffle will go directly to the North End Women’s Centre.
Attendees will be seated at tables of eight, with one person served what we call a “Rich Person” meal, while the other seven people will be served a “Poor Person” meal. The decision on who receives which type of meal is based purely on chance, simulating real life.
In addition to dinner, there will be a 50/50, raffle prizes and a cash bar. Winners will be announced at the end of the evening.
In hosting this event, we are hoping to not only raise funds for a worthwhile cause but also to raise awareness about mental health. By highlighting the need to support mental health services in our community, we hope to inspire a dialogue around improving the resources available and supporting those who are currently championing local services.
Tickets are available as follows:
There is also an option to donate to the cause without attending the event if you are unable to attend but would still like to contribute! Support tickets are available for $10.00.
