[acc-trig title=”At what point in medical school did you know what specialty you wanted to match into?”]
[acc-begin]

mid 3rd year of clerkship

[acc-trig title=”Do you feel that your choice of electives had any impact on your CaRMS match?”]
[acc-begin]

Yes, I wish I would have chosen electives in my top 2-3 choices instead of only focusing on my top choice. I also should have done more electives in the place where I had the highest chance of matching.

[acc-trig title=”What was the most valuable lesson or experience you had while going through the match process?”]
[acc-begin]

Your outcome may not always be what you initially thought you wanted but usually things will turn out well in the end and if they don’t/your unhappy there are other options that exist so you can change your speciality during residency..

[acc-trig title=”If you could go back and change anything during pre-clerkship or clerkship, what would you change?”]
[acc-begin]

During pre-clerkship I should have explored all specialties because it can be hard to make a competitive CARMs application (make connections and get good reference letters) if you decide that you would like to apply to a competitive program later in the clerkship year.

[acc-trig title=”Do you have any final words of wisdom or advice?”]
[acc-begin]

Rank your top 2-3 choices! If you don’t match with CARMs and you are a good medical student the U of M will support and work with you to find a residency in Manitoba.
